Case Study: Growing The Game Online

BIMCOM has a long history of success with the golf industry, from building and maintaining the websites and ecommerce systems for the nationally televised Merrill Lynch and LG Electronics Skins Game events to supporting small local community golf clubs. We know the dynamics of the golf business, and the challenges with bringing a golf facility onto the web, whether it be a daily fee, private, or resort club.

Traditionally, the golf industry is just that - traditional. General managers and golf course owners often find it difficult to transition their business to the web, for fear of 'cheapening' the brand of the club or alienating traditional golfers. The world is changing quickly, though, and clubs that fail to keep up with the shift to the online space will lose market share rapidly.

Our team has worked hand in hand with Directors of Golf, General Managers, Marketing Managers, Group/Tournament Sales Managers, Club Owners, and Golf Management companies for many years. We start by developing websites that convey the experience of stepping up to the first tee, be it a desert course in the Southwest, a mountain course in the Rockies, or a resort club on the coast... leveraging high quality professional photography, multiple angles of the fairways and greens, and hole by hole tours of the courses. If the clubhouse and golf shop are a part of the experience, we highlight those as well. Many high end clubs have a dining facility that exceeds the typical "19th hole" expectations. We incorporate that side of the business by building individual websites for the F&B teams, to complement the golf websites. Full CMS ("Content Management Systems") allows golf club and F&B staff to update specials, events listings, menus, tournament pages, and other content through an easy to use interface.

Group and tournament sales make up a large portion (and in some cases, the majority) of a facility's revenues. We build custom tournament registration tools that tie into the golf course website administration system, allowing club staff and event organizers to avoid the fax machine altogether. Event participants register online, submitting all the necessary information, from handicap to golf shirt sizes and pairing preferences.

The internet's fluidity and distribution have made it an incredible tool for revenue management. Our team builds tools and trains golf club staff to leverage last minute tee time providers and email specials lists to fill tee sheet white space without sacrificing brand standards. We advise golf club management on the best strategies for building and maintaining email lists, marketing to said lists, and analyzing the results to enhance future campaigns.

We've worked with online reservations systems for many years, including GolfSwitch, the first-to-market provider of online tee time reservations, and IBS, one of the leading electronic tee sheet providers. We help clubs set up processes for tracking revenues from various sources - rack rate and discount - so that future investments in advertising and partnerships can be based on statistical data.

AND THE RESULTS...
Our successes in the golf industry have been outstanding. Facilities like the Raven Golf Clubs in Colorado, Arizona, West Virginia, Florida, and Ontario saw nearly doubled web traffic and online revenues year-over-year since working with us. Seville Golf & Country Club in Gilbert, Arizona saw their weddings revenues grow 350% in just one year with the launch of a new wedding website and email marketing strategy. BlueStar Resort & Golf had their web traffic tripled in 36 months working with BIMCOM, and online revenues have more than doubled. Our corporate website for Intrawest's golf division won a Lotus Advertising Award for "Best B2C Website" and quadrupled search engine visibility with a full site optimization by BIMCOM. The company doubled the size of their email database through an online sweepstakes with Taylormade, strategized and designed by members of our team. The golf course industry has a long way to go on the web, though major brands like Nike Golf and Taylormade are leading by great example.
